Instructions to the First Cause

By Carl Hubrick
Spring 2021 | Poetry

Find a great space somewhere,

and light giant stars in it.

Create matter and shape planets,

and as each is finished—spin it.

Bestow an atmosphere to some,

add a little warmth and water.

Now sow the seeds of life

and sit back and watch

the slaughter.

After graduating from Canterbury University, NEW ZEALAND, Carl began his working life as a television producer and director for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. His teaching career includes further studies for a post-grad Diploma in the Teaching of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired and a two-year contract as HOD English in Western Samoa. “Target for Terror,” a middle-grade novel, published in NZ by National Pacific Press in 2008, was his first venture into writing.
